Monday, Monday

IMG_6831Mondays really have a bad rap.[1] To be honest, today really wasn’t that bad for me. Husband and I had to carpool to work, long story[2], so that was a great way to start the week. I got to work and only had one voicemail from the weekend, I encountered no major disasters, and I managed to tick a few items off the to-do list. What more can you really ask for?

Denying yourself a glass of wine on a Monday night just isn’t a good idea, so I came home pleasantly surprised to find this bottle already open and breathing.[3]

I get wood and a bit of alcohol on the nose with a hint of deep cherry. Husband gets leather and tobacco.[4] This tastes like the inside of an old wooden cabinet. In a truly delightful way. Rich and smoky to the extreme. Complex, silky, and an absolute joy to imbibe. With no real legs to speak of, this has the color of a deep ruby plum. Full bodied with a great texture and a beautiful elongated finish. One of the best wines I’ve had in a while.[5]

This paired astoundingly well with our Monday night gourmand feast.[6] This is definitely a food wine as the flavors are enhanced with each bite. I can see this being enjoyed with an excellent cut of steak and some rosemary potatoes roasted in duck fat.[7]

Very approachable at the $15 price point. A no-brainer for partners and associates alike. I may go buy a case to hang on to, or drink on a regular basis.

Lawyer Footnotes
[1] I saw an awesome inappropriate Instagram post this morning from TheWineStalker that basically sums it up.
[2] Something about forgetting that we’d left my car in a parking lot after a bit of wining and dining on Saturday night.
[3] Thanks, Husband.
[4] This may be influenced by the cigar he’s smoking with his friend Nick, but now that he mentioned it, I definitely get leather notes.
[5] Not to discount the fabulous whites and Rosés I’ve been drinking, but this really was on another level.
[6] Bag salad topped with pre-cooked Perdue chicken and a side of pepperoni pizza. Yum.
[7] Hint, hint, Husband.
